South Carolina students in 7th-12th grade are cordially invited to submit original sonnets to the First Annual Shakespeare’s Birthday Sonnet Contest. Winners are invited to read their poem on stage during the Shakespeare’s Birthday celebration on April 19 at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Rules: Sonnets may be written on any subject and in any voice but should follow at least two (2) of the following three (3) criteria: 1. Fourteen Lines; 2. Iambic Pentameter; 3. Rhyme Scheme (ABAB CDCD EFEF GG) Prizes 1st Prize: $100 2nd Prize: $50 3rd Prize: A collection of Shakespeare's Sonnets Submission Information: Email your submission to ShakespeareDay@usca.edu as a Word or PDF attachment. In the body of the email, please include your name, email address, your English teacher’s name, and a short bio. Entrants will receive notification through email by April 7th. If you would like to request a sonnet writing workshop for your class, please email Roy Seeger (roys@usca.edu)  Submission deadline is the Ides of March (March 15, 2023). No entry fee.
