Welcome to the course guide for Prof. Miller's ENGL 101.  In this guide, you'll find resources and information to help you complete this assignment.

Research is a process. 

1. Identify your topic.  Who is your witness? Why did you choose them?

2. Explore your topic.  Google your topic, and read generally and broadly. Read the Wikipedia entry. Look at the sources at the end to see if anything there is useful to you. Search Google Images or Google News.

3. Develop your research question or decide on your focus.  For this assignment, as you read more about your topic, you may decide on specific aspects to focus on.

4. Identify search terms. Looking at what you've read and taking into account your specific focus, what major concepts or keywords can you identify as potential search terms? Write them down.

5. Search for information. Once you familiarize yourself with what your topic is, you can begin doing more targeted searching. The specific aspects you decided to focus on also become search terms you can then Google to find more information. You can also take these key terms you've learned and search for articles in the Library's databases.

6. Evaluate your sources.  You've found a ton of stuff. Now you need to decide what's useful to you and what's not.  What is reliable, and what is not.
