Sources Outside of The Library

Unconventional Resources

  • Social Media:
    • While social media cannot be used for citation or source, it can be used for leads, NOT FACTS. You can use it for inspiration and then verify through scholarly resources. Reddit can be a useful tool for brainstorming and identifying potential research avenues. For example, a discussion in a relevant subreddit might highlight a niche area of study or mention a lesser-known researcher. However, it's crucial to remember that Reddit should be used for ideation, not citation, source. Any information found on the platform must be verified through established scholarly resources before being used in academic work.
  • AI language Tools:
    • ChatGPT or Google Gemini can act as powerful research assistants, streamlining your library experience. Ask AI to help you discover relevant databases or even generate search terms for your library's catalog. Keep in mind that AI can be wrong in a lot of cases so everything much be verified through a scholarly source.  These are language tools, not a place to verify information
