ASA Tips and Tricks

Citing Journal Articles

If a journal article is published both online and in print, you cite as though you are accessing the print version of the journal article. (Section 5.3.2 of ASA Manual). Most major journals are still published online and in print. If in doubt, Ask a Librarian or your professor.

If a journal article is only available online, you will need to include either a DOI or the URL at the end of your citation. For examples, check out our ASA Quick Reference Guide. (Section 5.3.3 of ASA Manual).
