Plagiarism Guide: Faculty: Resources

One of the major goals of the Library’s Information Literacy Program is to educate students on the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information and to show them how to use information in a way that is both ethical and legal.

In support of this goal, the Library has gathered together a list of resources that educate about plagiarism and aid in the process of detecting plagiarism.

• The Online Writing Lab (OWL) at Purdue University provides several lesson plans and handouts for professors interested in teaching their students about plagiarism.

• Published by the Council of Writing Program Administrators, Defining and Avoiding Plagiarism: The WPA Statement on Best Practices discusses the causes of plagiarism and outlines steps faculty can take to minimize the occurrence of plagiarism.

• Cheating 101: Paper Mills and You was a seminar delivered at Coastal Carolina University in 1999 and later revised in 2003.

• Plagiarism in Colleges in USA explores the legal issues surrounding plagiarism in college and presents numerous plagiarism cases that were tried in court.
