Shelving is the act of organizing books by their Call Numbers and placing them in the correct locations on the library shelves. Books are organized on the shelves from left to right.
As you shelve, make sure you are blocking. Blocking is when you have each book lined up with the edge of the shelf, and all books are standing upright with a book end placed at the end of each shelf.
Libraries use Classification Systems to arrange materials on the shelves so that items on a given subject are found close to to others on that subject.
