OpenAthens will replace our current off-campus database login. Users will use their UofSC Aiken credentials (same as email login) and be prompted when and where to enter them.  Our previous system will be retired at a later date, which we will notify the UofSC Aiken community.

What this means.

  • Old bookmarks and URLs will function in the interim until the old system is retired. Nearly all UofSC Aiken resources will work through OpenAthens on go live. So all database users should update any bookmarks and faculty are encouraged to update any URLs they have on their course sites and syllabuses.
  •  Gregg-Graniteville Library staff will monitor network usage to determine if old links are still in use.
  • OpenAthens will remember the browser user authenticated on. Fewer sign ins will be necessary.
  • Improved resource tracking so the library can better select what resources to keep.
  • Multiple access routes to library resources

As with the old system, links specifically generated for UofSC Aiken can link to resources directly and prompt for authentication if needed. Permalinks can be pulled from the Database list using the share option or generated using the tool located at https://go.openathens.net/generate/usca.edu/72043241

If assistance is needed with updating links in the syllabus and/or Blackboard, consult with your library liaison for guidance.
