Deciding whether to withdraw or stay in a class can be a difficult conversation for both students and advisors. When students are distressed, it can be hard for an advisor to recall all the considerations needed to assist the student in decision-making. To help, we have created this checklist to guide you through the discussion.
SAP appeal: Ask the student to search “SAP” in their email to review their specific stipulations. Typically, students cannot withdraw or fail a course, or they will lose their financial aid for the following semester. In these situations, the pros and cons of withdrawing must be evaluated (e.g., maintaining GPA vs losing aid).
