Each student must take a Non-Western study course. These courses can count toward both the non-Western requirement and another degree requirement. We like to call this “double dipping.”
Example: MUSIC A175 counts for the humanities AND Non-Western requirement.
Writing Intensive Courses
Each student must complete Writing Intensive (WI) courses.
First time, Freshmen must complete 3, with at least one within their major.
Transfer students are evaluated, and their number can be adjusted based on the number of credits they transferred.
This requirement can also “double dip”.
Some departments have all WI credits built into the major requirements.
Free Electives
Free electives are courses that allow a student to obtain the required 120 credit hours to graduate.
The exact number of free elective credits needed per major can be found in the academic bulletin.
Certain majors have specific rules surrounding free electives, which can be found in the academic bulletin.
