This website is dedicated to the memory of Bruce McGrath whose wisdom, leadership, and dedication brought the computer age to the seniors of South Carolina.

SeniorNet
Bruce McGrath started SeniorNet in Aiken, SC in 1999. He had been retired from IBM for five years after a career that spanned over 38 years. He had started in a headquarters computer job and held various managerial positions in sales, finance, education and IBM Latin America.
In 1997 he had been surfing the Internet looking for things for a senior citizen to do. He put “senior” in a search engine and the rest is history. He immediately contacted SeniorNet Headquarters in San Francisco and asked where there was a center near Aiken that he could volunteer his time. He was told there weren’t any centers in South Carolina and would he like to start one. Being put on the spot, one he wouldn’t regret, he immediately began planning for a center in Aiken contacting everyone he could to house a future SeniorNet Center. After meeting with USCA staff he knew that there would be a great fit. The Computer Club in Aiken volunteered their time to help get the center off the ground.
The Aiken SeniorNet opened its doors in August, 1999 with only six computers and two programs taught. We really have come quite far since our humble beginning – Bruce would have been very proud.
