ERIC - Educational Resources Information Center (from OCLC)

  • Covers: all areas of education.
  • Accession Numbers:
    • ED numbers = ERIC digests (check the web site below or use interlibrary loan)
    • EJ numbers = journals (check the USCA journal holdings or use interlibrary loan)
  • Listed under \”OCLC FirstSearch Databases.\”
  • Coverage from 1966 to the present but not full-text.

DISCUS: Expanded Academic Index ASAP

  • Covers all subjects, but does include some of the key education journals.
  • View \”Title List\” for list of journals available (shows indexing dates and FULL-TEXT if available).
  • Limit your search to \”Refereed Journals\” to find articles in scholarly journals.

Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database

  • Gives overview, author, subjects, some book reviews and location information for a broad range of children’s literature.
  • Search for literature by genre, fiction/nonfiction, age, grade, language, author, illustrator, publication date, awards and/or lexile range.

Search Tips

  1. Write down a list of keywords about your topic and their synonyms.
  2. Note the subject headings or descriptors. Databases often assign different words to topics.
  3. Make a note of where key journals are located (online, in the library, or through Interlibrary Loan).

    • This comprehensive web site from the United States government provides information regarding laws, policies, research, statistics, and more.
    • To access a selected number of the ERIC digests (the \”ED\” numbers found in the ERIC database), select the \”Research & Statistics link,\” look under \”Research\” for \”Reports & Publications\” and click on \”ERIC digests\” link.
  • Education Week http://www.edweek.org
    • Indexes and displays full-text articles from 1981-present.
